Fighting Poverty with Raspberry Farming -

MTS works on cutting poverty off at its roots. We provide tools for sustainable change to the people most vulnerable to hunger. Families in need – men, women, children, elderly - are a vital part of MTS’s community-based efforts to improve their basic living conditions, increase access to quality health care and expand economic opportunity for all. Up to date MTS has supported over 180 families in fighting poverty through establishment of small business startups and provision of skills enhancement and training.

Fighting Poverty with Raspberry Farming”--is project financed by Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo. The overall goal of the project is to bring improvements in the living conditions and development opportunities of families, children, ethnic and deprived people in the project area. Specifically, families will be self-employed, will turn eventually to family business be engaged and level of nourishment will be increased.  Raspberry is an important high-value horticultural industry in many European countries because it provides employment directly in agriculture, and indirectly in food processing and confectionary. Fresh raspberry prices are much higher than those of frozen raspberries. Sometimes it can command five times the price of frozen raspberries. Average price that growers get for fresh raspberries is from 1 to 2 €/kg, the annual brute profit can be from 2000-3500 euro.
