Helping a single mother to generate income by herself‘ -

KHCS Mother Teresa (MTS) is nongovernmental organization established since 1990. MTS works on cutting poverty off at its roots, by providing tools for sustainable change to the most vulnerable people. Currently MTS is implementing partner of Caritas Austria on Project “Back Home – reintegration of returnees and socially deprived families”. The project is generously co-financed by Austrian Development Agency (ADA) The project´s overall goal is to contribute to a reduced migration pressure in Kosovo and to foster the (re)integration of Kosovan population by establishing sustainable economic activities and increasing the well-being of 100 returnees and 20 socially deprived households.  Targeted areas are those, which were highly affected by the wave of emigration in late 2014/early 2015 (areas around Mitrovica, Ferizaj, Prishtina, and Gjilan). The project “Back home – and now? Sustainable reintegration of returnees and vulnerable families in Kosovo” is amid of its project activities implementation.  Below it is story of one of MTS beneficiaries, struggling to reintegrate to society again. Mrs. K lives in Ferizaj, she is a single mother of two young kids. She left the Kosovo seeking for a better life in Austria in February 2014. After staying there for 8 months she was repatriated to Kosovo. Since her return she couldn’t find a job and was forced to live of social assistance. Social assistance didn’t cover her monthly expenses. Therefore Mrs. K. was not able to fulfill the basic needs of her children. In the course of the project, Mrs K was selected as being particularly vulnerable according to the criteria set up in our project. The MTS Regional worker supports her since June 2016. Before Mrs. K. left the Kosovo she graduated from a hair dresser course, she has a certificate and work experience. After a needs and competences based assessment the Regional worker decided in cooperation with Mrs. K and the project coordinator to support Mrs. K by opening her own hair dresser salon. Jointly with MTS Mrs. K developed individual business plan based on her own experience as well as on the results of consultations in the field. Therefore MTS Regional worker supported Mrs. K. to find a location for the salon and delivered the tools and equipment for the salon in autumn 2016. Since December 2016 Mrs. K. started to work in a shared hair dresser salon.’ Even though it is still winter I am pleased that thanks to this project I can start working and earn money to sustain me and my children’ added Mrs. K.  Feeling satisfied that her income is slowly increasing
