Mother Teresa Biography

Mother Teresa (1910 – 1997), born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was a Catholic nun of Albanian ethnicity and Indian citizenship, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950.

For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries.

Mother Teresa Society contributing to low income families and rural women of Kosovo -

KHCS “Mother Teresa” in partnership with Center for Protection of Women and Children started the implementation of the Project “Creating self-employment for rural women and families” generously supported by European Union Kosovo, the project will last 16 months.

The project ‘Creating self-employment for rural women and families’ tends to contribute in promoting family small scales entrepreneurship in Kosovo as a means of empowering women and socially deprived families, and encouraging economic growth in the region.

This project will support sixty (60) marginalized families, women and other community members with low income, in stimulating beekeeping, green housing, goat rearing in the municipality of Prizren, Vushtri, Viti, Mitrovica and Dragash.

One of the beneficiaries of this project, Mr. Ramadan Bala from the village of Zabërgjë said:

"I'm so glad to be part of this project, where every morning when I wake up, I sit near the bees, and talk to them. Thanks to this project, I have enough hives under my care, which are sufficient to ensure income for my family. " 

Partners of this project, the Executive Director of Mother Teresa, Zef Shala, and the Executive Director of the Center for Protection of Women and Children, Naime Sherifi, expressed their gratitude to the Office of the European Union, who have opened doors for various non-governmental associations, which have as a main aim to assist the families in need throughout Kosovo. 

Through this project, it is aimed the domestic economy developement, and rural development in Kosovo, where respectively, it assists on softening  the rural displacement of residents from different regions throughout Kosovo.
