Mother Teresa Biography

Mother Teresa (1910 – 1997), born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was a Catholic nun of Albanian ethnicity and Indian citizenship, who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950.

For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries.

Infrastructure support of communities

Housing Program 2011

Mother Teresa Society (MTS) recently signed an agreement with the Mother Teresa Society of Switzerland to construct six new houses and two partial rehabs for eight vulnerable families living in Kosova. From 2000 to date, Mother Teresa Society has reconstructed 165 new houses in Kosovo.

The major donors involved were MTS Switzerland, Caritas Vienna, Diaconie Austria, and through the successful public donation of the public event: "The poor are among us let's find and help them."

Socio-economic project

Beehive Support project

MTS works tirelessly to bring Kosovar families out of poverty by offering them with small-scale income generating projects. In 2011, (10) new families will be trained and equipped with beehives facilitating their advancement out of poverty.

The major donors of the Income generation projects are: Caritas Vienna, Loppan –Hoganas, and Swiss development and Cooperation (SDC).

Humanitarian project

Hope and Aid Direct Humanitarian Convoy

In May of 2011, 26 HAAD volunteers together with MTS volunteers and other supporters managed to deliver aid to 1,423 families with a total of 7,865 family members during a one-week period.

The implementation of this extraordinary HAAD convoy would not have been so possible if it weren't for the collaborative help and support of the volunteer network of HAAD and MTS, Customs of Kosova, the Insurance Association of Kosova, AUK students, Food and Veterinary Agency and countless more.

Safety Net Project

In 2011 alone, with support of Mother Teresa Switzerland, 100 families will be supported twice with food and essentials during month of Ramadan (July).

Also helping in the effort: "M&Sillosi" Mill from Xerxë is matching the flour quantity per family—doubling the amount of flour available to these families!

Civil Society lead projects

NGO Coalition “Democracy in Action”

“The process of democracy promotes political and social differences without violence” - Aung San Suu Kyi

KHCS Mother Teresa on basis of its organizational vision aims to be active Civil Society factor at building an open society where human being values are cultivated and where freedom, justice peace and mutual trust are respected with tolerance. As active participant of civil society in Kosovo, during the 2010 Association has been part of NGO’ coalition "Democracy in Action" in monitoring the parliamentary elections held on 12/12/2010.

Civic Dialogue Program

Civic Dialogue (CiD), a non-partisan, multi-ethnic initiative of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from Serbia and Kosovo, was launched in 2002 to abrogate the consequences of the violent conflicts in former Yugoslavia.

This program includes, but is not limited to:

  • Reconciliation: Coming to terms with the recent past
  • Youth and Gender issues
  • Freedom of Expression and media
  • Free movement of peoples
  • Free trade.

Voluntary Return and Reintegration Program

Mother Teresa Society, through Voluntary Returns and Reintegration programs, aim to promote sustainable voluntary return and reintegration of Kosovars returning from EU countries. This is done in an effort to improve economic prospects for the returnees and their families. From 2002 to date, MTS has facilitated the return of 59 families with a total of 325 families members safely to Kosovo.

MTS partnered with the following organizations to allow these families safe return: International Organization for Migration (IOM) Program and European Reintegration Support Organizations (ERSO) II program.Recently, MTS has signed a contract with 'Stichting Mondiale Samenleving' (SMS) and The Mediation Agency for Return from the Netherlands to continue this program.

Peace Ambassadors of Kosova

Based on MTS statistics, over 1300 children were orphaned in Kosovo with one or both parents killed during the war.

Mother Teresa Society seeks to work with children victims of the war and transform the anger and trauma these children have experienced into something beneficial to themselves, their families, community and tomorrow to the entire society. Each year MTS organizes a Summer Camp for PA with different topics and themes. This year (2011) in July, a group of P.A. will attend a 7-day camp with lectures on anthropology and ethnography of the village Theth in Albania.
